Mt. Mansfield

Posted by Sue on August 9th, 2006

Last last Sunday, the 31st was a beautiful clear day. So we decided to drive up the Toll Road at the mountain as we try to do at least once a year. One new thing: the attendent gives you a CD to listen to on the way up filled with facts and history about the Mtn to which our 6 year old exclaimed: “BORING!” So we got out at the top thinking we were just going to travel down the little trail through the woods to where the view was. We hadn’t even eaten our lunch yet that I packed as it was barely 11:30. I grabbed a 12 oz. bottle of water for 5 of us and we were off. We got to “the view” where you can see all the way to Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks beyond. We’re a little underdressed in t-shirts and shorts and one of us is only 3 years old but they wanted to press on. We negotiated a couple times about stopping and turning back. In the meantime we pass people. People wearing fleece and long pants, with backpacks, with a First-Aid kit tending to a casualty. We passed a family that owns a kids’ sporting gear store here in town. All were appropriately dressed with packs and looking at us like we didn’t know what we were doing (obviously). It didn’t look good. We made it almost all the way to the nose through some pretty hairy spots where we had to climb. But surpisingly enough, I am happy to say we managed to share our tiny bottle of water between us. No one fell off the Mtn. We didn’t freeze to death and there were very few tears. There’s always tears.boys

Blogging as a tool

Posted by Sue on August 9th, 2006

I’ve decided this blogging stuff will be a handy tool to manage certain someones in my house. As in “this is so going in my blog.” I guess the 3 year old will be immune, but the 6, 9 and 38 year old. Watch out.

The puzzle is done

Jigsaw that is. The second one we’ve tackled this year. The first was a really cool Renoir that was given to us as a gift from my brother-in-law about 10 years ago. We finally put a table in the living room that we could set it up on. That was in April? We finished that and were itching to get started on another which turned out to be a challenge in itself. We couldn’t find anything in town so eventually my husband headed to Wal-Mart and came home with this tacky painting puzzle. He said it was all they had. Here’s our cat taking a break between mice/bird slayings. I know she looks innocent…notice there’s 1 piece missing. Next up: a scene from Nyhavn, Copenhagen, Denmark. Chloe in between mice/bird slayings
